Common questions about Otto, pricing, setup, and how it works.
Otto is an intelligent DevOps agent suite made up of four products: Stack, Security, Dev, and Ops. Together, they serve as your DevOps team's best friend — automating stack management, security scanning, development, and operations while teaching your team current best practices.
Otto works with Claude Code, GitHub Copilot (in VS Code), and Cursor. The VS Code extension works identically for all three. You bring your own subscription to whichever agent you prefer.
Yes. Otto provides the specialized DevOps intelligence via a cloud-hosted MCP server. You use your own AI coding assistant — Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, or Cursor — to implement Otto's recommendations. This keeps your code on your machine while Otto handles the analysis server-side.
No. Your source code never leaves your machine. Otto receives metadata about your project (dependency lists, configuration settings, etc.) and returns computed recommendations. Your AI coding assistant on your local machine implements those recommendations.
Otto licenses are per application, not per repository or per seat. An application is a logical grouping of repos that make up a product. Whether your app is a monorepo or 10 microservices, it is one application and one subscription.
Yes. Otto Stack is available standalone and is the recommended starting point. Otto Security works standalone alongside Otto Stack (both required — Stack provides the foundation that Security builds on). Otto Dev and Otto Ops also require Stack but can be added individually or as part of Otto Complete.
Otto offers a free stack scorecard for any project — no subscription needed. The scorecard shows your overall stack health and top issues. Full remediation details and ongoing monitoring require a paid subscription.
Subscriptions are monthly per application, billed through Stripe. When you change products mid-cycle, the cost is prorated. You can manage payment methods and view invoices through the Stripe Customer Portal.
Yes. Otto licenses are per application, not per seat. Your entire team can use Otto on a licensed application at no additional per-user cost. Team management features let you control who has access to which applications.
Otto Stack maintains a curated, versioned registry of approved technologies covering frontend frameworks, backend frameworks, databases, ORMs, authentication, CSS, testing, CI/CD, and more. The registry is continuously updated.
Otto handles repetitive tasks like scanning, dependency updates, compliance reports, and deployment health checks. For critical decisions — PR approvals, deployment promotions beyond dev, architecture choices, and incident escalations — Otto always loops your team in. You control how much Otto does independently.
Otto is not a point solution — it covers the full DevOps lifecycle from stack assessment through operations. It is not a chatbot that generates boilerplate. Otto has 454 capabilities across four products, each grounded in industry standards like OWASP and DORA metrics. And Otto teaches as it works — every recommendation explains the why.
No. Otto runs as a cloud-hosted MCP server only. This protects Otto's proprietary framework logic and ensures all customers get the latest capabilities and security updates automatically.
Access continues until the end of your current billing period. After that, Otto products are deactivated for the application. Your code and configurations are yours — Otto does not remove anything it helped create.
